The rules and regulations set forth below are designed to provide for the orderly conduct of racing events and to establish minimum acceptable requirements for such events. NO EXPRESS OR IMPLIED WARRANTY OF SAFETY SHALL RESULT FROM PUBLICATION OF OR COMPLIANCE WITH THESE RULES AND/OR REGULATIONS. They are intended as a guide for the conduct of the sport and in no way guarantee against injury or death to a participant, crew member, spectator or official.
Upon entering an event, racers agree to follow the rules, and that all interpretation of the rules, questions and protests are left to the discretion of race officials. The Track Manager or Race Director shall be empowered to permit deviation and/or to impose further restrictions from any of the specifications herein. Interpretation of these rules is left to the discretion of track officials. Their decision is final.
NHRA RULES: Champion Raceway is a NHRA sanctioned race track, and all NHRA rules apply and will be enforced. Refer to the current year NHRA Rule Book for specifics.
DRIVERS RESPONSIBILITY: Any infraction may result in disqualification. Drivers are responsible for and can be disqualified for any actions of their crew.
APPAREL: Shorts, bare legs, tank tops, or bare torsos are prohibited when driving in any class. Closed toe shoes are mandatory in the competition/restricted areas of the race track.
ALCOHOL, DRUGS, GLASS CONTAINERS: No glass containers, alcohol, or drugs may be brought into the park. No alcohol is allowed in restricted areas of the facility (which includes staging lanes, starting line, track return road) or the family seating area of the bleachers. Any driver determined to be consuming alcohol or found in any restricted area with alcohol in his/her possession will be immediately disqualified. There is no consumption of alcohol by a driver or crew until they have finished racing. Repeat offenses by driver or crew will result in permanent suspension. Vehicles are subject to search anytime when alcohol or drugs are suspected.
RESTRICTED AREAS: The following areas are restricted: area behind the burn-out box, the starting line, track, staging lanes, and return road. All persons entering restricted areas must sign the waiver and release prior to entering. Restricted area wristbands must be in plain view at all times.
CHILDREN UNDER 18: Minor release forms must be completed and turned into registration for anyone under 18 who will be racing or entering the restricted areas.. NO ONE UNDER 16 may enter any of the restricted areas (unless junior dragsters are being run), or they are inside a support vehicle.
SPEED LIMIT: 10 MPH on pit roads, 5 MPH in staging lanes
STARTER DISCRETION RULE: The starter has complete discretion on the start line. His decisions are final and are not subject to appeal. If an error occurs at the start line that has little or no consequence to the outcome of the race, the starter may rule it as a "harmless error" and not affect the outcome of the race.
RACE PROTESTS: All protests must come from the driver only, not from crewmembers. Contact the race official. Race Director decisions are final in all cases.
CONDUCT: Any un-sportsman like, offensive or unsafe conduct or behavior may be grounds for disqualification and removal from the premises.
PIT VEHICLES: Only licensed drivers may drive any pit vehicle (golf carts, ATV's, bikes, etc). NO ONE UNDER THE AGE OF 16 MAY OPERATE A MOTORIZED OR WHEELED VEHICLE AT ANY TIME. Pit vehicles must display your competition number. All pit vehicles must have a headlight and taillight after dark.
OIL DISPOSAL: A 170 gallon waste oil container is placed in the pits next the the grandstands. DO NOT put oil in any 55 gallon trash cans.
COMMERCIAL SALES: Commercial sales of any kind are prohibited without prior approval by Track Manager.
COMPETITION NUMBERS: All racers participating in the Saturday ET Championship series must purchase ($10) a Champion Raceway competition card. If you have an NHRA license/competition number your card will reflect that number, otherwise a competition number will be assigned to you. At this time you may also sign up for season points if you plan on competing toward the championship in the ET Championship Series. Your competition card must be shown at the gate in order to receive a tech card at each race.
NHRA MEMBERSHIP/COMPETITION NUMBER: All racers required to be licensed (run faster than 9.99 or 135 MPH) must have an NHRA membership & competition number for the class they are running. In addition, anyone wanting to participate in the Summit ET Finals must have a NHRA membership & competition number (this is a NHRA requirement). To apply for a competition number, print the application form from NHRA's website @ http://www.nhra.com/contacts/forms/nonlicense.pdf. We strongly suggest that you apply for your competition number at the beginning of the season and not wait until it's time for the finals.
COMPETITION NUMBER DISPLAY: At a minimum competition numbers must be displayed on the driver's side window and windshield, and be 6" high x 1-1/2" wide. Numbers must be permanently displayed if running at any NHRA event. (Reference Section 7:2 under General Regulations of the NHRA Rulebook).
RESTRICTED AREA PASS: All drivers and crew must obtain (at tech/pro shop) a restricted area pass before entering any restricted areas (see definition of restricted areas above). To obtain a pass (wristband) you must sign the "Release & Waiver of Liability and Indemnity Agreement" at which time you will receive your pass (wristband). Your wristband must be worn during the entire event and must be fully visible whenever you are in a restricted area. Violations may result in loss of time trial, disqualification, or other sanctions.
TECH CARDS: Tech cards must be filled out completely, legibly and signed before entering tech area. If there is more than one driver per vehicle, all drivers must sign tech card prior to any run.
NO SHOW FORM: To insure proper crediting of points, racers who are not able to stage their car must report to the tower and complete a "No Show Form". This guarantees that they will not be overlooked when points are tallied.
ABSENTEE/VACATION POINTS: Twice during the season a racer may purchase a tech card for a race they will be unable to attend, and receive the associated 10 points.
CLASS SWITCHING: Racers may switch classes up to and including the second points race, and have their accumulated points move with them to the new class. If you switch classes after the second race, accumulated points will not transfer, but you will accumulate points in the new class from that point forward.
TECH/SAFETY INSPECTION: Tech inspection will be held at the back of the staging lanes. Do not pull into tech lanes until you have all your equipment, safety clothing and licenses required to race with you and ready for inspection. You must pass inspection prior to making any runs.
RAIN-OUTS: If a race gets rained out during time trials, all drivers in attendance will earn 10 points (unless the race is re-scheduled). If a race gets rained out during eliminations, drivers earn points based on the last completed round in their class.
LANE ASSIGNMENTS: The following lane assignments will be in effect for all Friday Night and ET Championship races, unless advised otherwise prior to the start of racing.

DIAL-INS: Dial-ins must be visible from the tower, placed on the windshield and driver's side window. Dial-in must be in place before leaving the head of the staging lane. Check the scoreboard for the correct dial-in before staging. If it is incorrect notify the starter. Once you stage you accept the dial-in and the race will not be re-run if it was incorrect. Dial-ins may be changed due to delays (oil-downs, weather, breakage) with permission of staging director. You cannot dial out of your bracket.
RANDOM PAIRING: Never assume you are paired with someone until you pull into the burnout box.
TIME TRIALS/QUALIFYING ROUNDS: At Friday Night and ET Series events every effort will be made to provide 2 time trial runs and one qualifying run for each class. The qualifying run will be used to determine the bye run for 1st round as applicable. If there are weather or track clean-up delays the number of runs may be reduced at the discretion of management
BYE RUNS: 1st round bye runs will be determined by the best reaction time in the qualifying run. The #1 qualifier (best reaction time) will be notified they have the bye run and held to the end of the class. If an even number of cars show for the 1st round, the #1 qualifier will run against an opponent. If there are an odd number of cars that show in the round, the #1 qualifier will run a single. For subsequent rounds bye runs will be determined based on best reaction time in the previous round (unless the class is laddered - see below). If the racer with the best reaction time has already had a single run, the racer with the next best reaction time will be awarded the bye.
LADDERS: Friday Night Drag Series races will not be laddered. For ET Championship Series races ladders will be done as follows: Motorcycle Class -- laddered prior to 1st round, based on reaction times in the qualifying run. All other classes will be laddered after 1st round, based on reaction times in 1st round. Ladder will be adjusted as necessary to ensure a racer with a single run in 1st round does not get a bye in a subsequent round.
LANE CHOICE: Right staging lane to right lane, left staging lane to left lane. In single lanes, first out has choice or flip a coin if needed.
BURNOUTS: DO NOT start your burnout until instructed to do so by a starting line official. Cars running street tires are to drive around the water box, so as to not track water into the starting area.
STAGING: Do not pull into the staging lanes until your class has been called. Please monitor the PA or FM 97.5 for staging lane assignments and calls.
COURTESY STAGING: Required of everyone. The rule is "don't light the stage bulb until both cars have lit the pre-stage bulb".
DEEP STAGING: Deep stage at your own risk, there will be no re-runs due to mismanaged deep staging. Do not write "DEEP" on your car -- the starter is under no obligation to wait for a driver to deep stage. Note -- it is illegal to deep stage in certain NHRA classes (see rulebook).
EXCESSIVE BRAKING: In the event you excessively use your brakes to prevent running under your dial-in, it may be grounds for immediate disqualification. The starter's or Race Director's decision is final.
TAIL LIGHTS: During night racing lights must be on when leaving the staging lanes and remain on until you leave the racing surface. A headlight of some sort is recommended for return road use.
TOW VEHICLE: If a tow vehicle is used, they need to drive near the guardrail minimizing track dust and dirt on the concrete starting pad. IMMEDIATELY follow the race car down the track after the race start. If a problem occurs, or you need help, turn on your emergency flashers. The race will be stopped ASAP.
BROKEN/LEAKING CAR: If you think your car is broken or leaking, safely pull over to the guardrail of your lane and STOP. Wait for track crew to check it out. Notify the tower anytime your car is unable to return to racing.
RETURN ROADS: Return roads exit to the left, therefore the left lane always has the right of way. Do not cut in front of the car in the left lane -- you must see them turn off onto the return road before turning across the lane to exit yourself.
JACKS & JACKSTANDS: No work may be done under any car in the pit area while the car is supported by only one jack. Additional safety devices such as jackstands are mandatory to provide additional protection in the event of jack failure. Failure to observe this rule is grounds for immediate disqualification.
WARM UPS: It is mandatory that a driver be seated in the car in the normal driving position anytime the engine is running, unless coupler or driveline is removed from vehicle. The practice of transbrake testing, converter stalls, line-loc testing, and/or transmission warming is prohibited in all classes, in all areas of the event except in starting line approach areas beyond staging, or unless vehicle is on jackstands. Non-compliance is grounds for disqualification.
PASSENGERS: Vehicles running 14.00 and slower are allowed one passenger during time trials or test & tune passes only, with same safety equipment as driver. Passengers must be at least 16 years of age. Anyone under 18 must have a signed waiver by parent or guardian on file. NO EXCEPTIONS
